Heard/Depp Fiasco

I know all of us were gripped by the Amber Heard/Johnny Depp defamation trial. Hold on, did I say that? Okay, that was an overstatement. For a few of you though who sympathized with Ms. Heard’s entreaties, including yours truly, you may find some solace in the following film offerings. I’m calling it Girls Gone Berserk.

You can, preferably, view the characters played by Jennifer Garner, Charlize Theron, Bridget Fonda, and others, and disorient yourself when these women kick some serious ass as antiheroes against every man whoever wronged them. Interestingly, a few of these films (and others not mentioned here) were released around 2018. I’m looking into that.

In the mean time, strap yourself in. All of these films are not for the faint of heart. Most of the time they are wantonly violent with ever-present, indistinct revenge messaging.

With Atomic Blonde, for example, you not only get non-stop retributive violence, but also a great soundtrack which designs to both influence and intensify the dark mood of the film. You want to turn away, but can’t. It’s the presence and talent of Charlize Theron that makes this reachable.

My personal take on the Heard/Depp trial? I think they both should have stayed away from each other. I know this sounds simplistic, but they couldn’t and didn’t, and it’s unfortunate their embittered relationship transgressed into a very public trial. (There was one instance during the trial when Depp tried to reach out to Heard, presumably in a moment of tenderness, but was held back by court officials.)

I’m not sure if I’ll include any Heard/Depp films on this site. At least not now anyway.
